Bronco Overflow Bottle vs Surge Tank:
Broncos from 1966-72 came with a metal surge tank, plumbed into the cooling system via radiator hoses. By 1973, Ford switched to this more simplified overflow tank design. Rather than being fully integrated into the coolant system, this bottle catches overflow coolant from the radiator cap via a single hose and returns it to the radiator as the engine cools.
