Product Overview:

Our firewall insulators are molded to fit. They have a PVC plastic fronting and come complete with the under dash piece, firewall piece and fasteners. These help keep the engine heat out of the driver's compartment and help to insulate the cab for all-weather use. They are easy to install when you're doing a frame-up project but can also be installed without removing the dash.

Q: How do you recommend installing the upper insulating panel with foil backing? Glue I would assume. Does the foil glue to the metal or the insulation. I don't have one for reference. What glue works best for this? thanks for your help.

A: Glue would be best, either a spray glue, or another type of quick setting adhesive. The upper panel will be installed by shape, not side. The thinner side to the passenger, thicker to driver.

Q: I am going to purchase the Racket Jacket Floor System, should I also purchase this Firewall Insulator for max insulation? Or does the Racket Jacket Floor System cover the firewall?

Thanks!

A: The racket jacket covers the floor up to the firewall. Get the firewall insulator and it will take care of the firewall and meet up with the racket jacket floor kit.

Q: Do you have suggested installation of the firewall insulator? Can it be installed without removing everything?

A: We do not have installation instructions for the 3405. You need to have a bare firewall, or close to it, to install. There are too many items that pass through it.

The holes for the attachment plugs lined up perfectly, but other holes either did not exist, did not line up or are too small. I thought drilling them out would be easy, but the insulation grabs on to the drill bit and you end up removing a bunch of insulation from your bit. Also, the thickness and form of the plastic face makes it hard to reattach some items as the bolts barely come through the other side until you start tightening them down. In the end it was hard work (typical for a bronco), but the black plastic face looks good.

I bought the Fire Wall Insulation pad and it fits great.

After some trimming in various areas the end results were good. Since this is a frame off rebuild it will be sometime before testing. The only complaint i have is almost everything i order from any vendor is missing installation instructions. Please require your suppliers to work on that. Thanks

Great order service from Wild Horses. Insulator has good form but is very generic for firewall openings. Very tricky add holes in insulator as the insulation will quickly ball up around any drilling. Any kind of directions regarding hole making or modifying and firewall penetrations layout would have made this product much easier to use.

Excessive trimming required. Only had emergency brake near firewall. If you are going to install, you must remove everything. Broke upon installation.

Overall the part is well constructed and after a number of "adjustments" fit well. The insulation covers the hard shell from edge to edge which is great but creates a few fitment issues where it is designed to be through bolted (accelerator pedal and heater box mounting studs). Had to remove insulation in these areas to get a proper fit. Removing the insulation is tougher than you would think requiring fresh utility knife blades and compressing the material to be able to cut through it (recycled denim material). Also replaced the push connectors with stainless screws and washers for a more secure installation. I would have given it 5 stars if it simply would have "dropped" into place but I had to mess with it for several hours even with the dash completely out. Couldn't imagine trying to install it with the dash in. Haven't been able to put it to the test yet but anything beats getting baked from the feet up...
