3G Early Bronco Alternator Wiring Advice
For the best performance, we recommend pairing this early Bronco alternator with our #6025 Battery Charge Cable. If you are making your own charge cable, please use a minimum 6-gauge wire from the alternator to the battery.
After installing this alternator, the factory ALT gauge will no longer function. We suggest using our #6052 Voltage Gauge, which fits perfectly in your stock gauge cluster. Alternatively, any auto parts store volt gauge will also work to keep an eye on your charging system.
Mounting a 3G Alternator in your 66-77 Bronco
Mounting this alternator in your early Bronco is simple. The single wire connection makes wiring the alternator a breeze and it is simplified even more by using our #6025 Battery Charge Cable. Physically mounting the alternator to the early Bronco's engine is also simple. This alternator utilizes the factory alternator mounting brackets, so you literally just pull the old alternator off the engine and bolt this one right in its place.

Asked by Vince, May 28, 2024 16:23
Q: The connector has 3 wires. Yellow and white/black are connected but what's left of the green looks to be cut off right at the connector. Is that intentional and is this the way I was supposed to receive it?
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:23
A: Yes, that is intentional with this setup. No worries.
Asked by Randy, May 28, 2024 16:23
Q: My stock lower alternator bracket runs very close to the lower radiator hose. Is this alternator the same center to center bolt pattern as the stock alternator on my old '67 with a 302 engine? Will be a clearance problem if it is larger. Thank you.
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:23
A: The bolt spread is wider than the stock alternator. If you have a 2 piece alternator bracket like our #6007, then we would not expect any issue.

Q: I received my alternator yesterday. Does this alternator need to be grounded? Thank you
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:23
A: No, the alternator is grounded through the bracketry, and motor. Just make sure your engine has a good ground, and no worries.
Asked by Erik, May 28, 2024 16:22
Q: Will this fit on an explorer 5.0 motor swap in my Bronco that I am planning to do if I order serpentine pulley?
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:22
A: This alternator is not normally used in an Explorer swap. We normally use #6019 for the Explorer front dress.
Asked by DK, May 28, 2024 16:22
Q: I have a inline 6/200 that the alternator went out. I am planning to replace it and was wondering if I had plans to eventually do a v8 swap, would this alternator work?
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:22
A: Sure, it just comes down to the brackets, and the brackets should be relatively easy to come by for both motors. The alternator doesn't care or know.
Asked by Dean, May 28, 2024 16:21
Q: Does the v-belt pulley have the fan with it as the original Alt?
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:21
A: No, the alternator is internally cooled. There is no fan on the pulley.
Asked by Clint Palka, May 28, 2024 16:21
Q: What bolt size is used for the lower alternator bolt ?
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:21
A: The bolt is 8x1.25 Metric.
Asked by Charlie, May 28, 2024 16:20
Q: Currently using stock forward two wire alternator. Is this truly a drop in alternator and do I just abandon the small wire?
Answered by ☆ sales - May 28, 2024 16:20
A: You will need one wire to connect the battery to the alternator. We offer the #6025 charge cable with fuse. All the old wires can be removed, taped or terminated, and abandoned.
Asked by Phil Carlson, May 28, 2024 16:19
Q: I want to upgrade my alternator, from the original Ford alternator to your High output alternator part #6013. I understand the new alternator hooks right up to the battery with one large wire. My question is what do I do with the voltage regulator, the capacitor and all the wires that were hooked up to the old alternator? Thank you in advance.
Answered by ☆ 8578 - May 28, 2024 16:20
A: All you do is take the stock wires off the stock alt. Wrap them up and tape them out of the way. You don't need to remove the regulator from the inner fender unless you want to.
