Adapt Your Steering Shaft to the Factory Steering Joint Flex Coupler
Upgrading your steering column or replacing a damaged or worn-out flange? This rag joint flange will adapt a 3/4" diameter, 36-spline steering shaft to the factory rag joint found on 1973-77 Ford Broncos. Whether you're running a factory setup or installing an IDIDIT Direct Fit tilt column (74-75 Bronco version), this flange makes it all come together.
Key Details:
-
Direct Fit for 1973-77 Broncos: Works with factory rag joint steering setups.
-
Built for 3/4"-36 Spline Shafts: For best results, use a 36-spline steering shaft. Factory flanges were welded on, and while cutting that off and welding this flange on may be possible, a new shaft is safer and much less work.
-
IDIDIT Direct Fit Tilt Column Compatibility: This flange is commonly used with 1974-75 Bronco IDIDIT Direct Fit tilt steering columns to connect to the OEM lower shaft and rag joint.
Installation Notes:
-
1973-75 Broncos: This flange connects to the upper steering shaft through the column.
-
1976-77 Broncos: The flange is positioned on the lower slip shaft from the factory.
-
Factory Units Were Welded: You can’t simply unbolt the old flange. We recommend using a true 36-spline shaft for clean, secure installation.
-
Welding Option (Not Recommended): If necessary, the old flange may be able to be cut off and this one welded in its place. This is NOT the way we recommend installing this flange and should only be attempted by a qualified professional. WILD HORSES accepts no liability for damages caused by improperly installed or modified parts.
There's a Better Alternative!
If you're not looking to modify your current setup, we can build a custom adjustable lower steering shaft to match your application and eliminate the flex coupler assembly altogether. Questions? Give us a call!
