Asked by Mike Steiger, September 2, 2021

Q: Will this work on a 351w. Distributors are different from 302 sbf to a 351w.

1 Answer

Answered by sales - September 9, 2021

A: Pertornix lists all 1957-74 Year, 8 Cyl, All Models with Motorcraft Distributors. They do not list a different model for 289, 302, or 351W, that we can find, only one. We expect it to work, as long as you have a stock Motorcraft Distributor.

Q: I thought the ballast resistor was to protect the coil? won't the 12V to coil now burn it out?

1 Answer

Answered by sales - March 19, 2021

A: The resistor is to protect the points, in a points distributor. 12 volts would burn the contacts of the points faster than when resisted. Most Electronic ignition systems require a full 12 volts.
